Web Developer Resource Index: XHTML
The Extensible Hypertext Markup Language is HTML 4.01 rewritten as an XML application language.
The concept behind this new family of standardized markup languages for Web documents
is that they be both backwardly compatible with existing user agents (browsers), and
provide for the new technology of an XML-based Web of the future.
This Web site is written in the latest of the four versions of XHTML: 1.1. At the time
of the writing, XHTML 2.0 is a W3C Working Draft, and will not be backwardly
compatible with HTML. It will included fewer presentation elements, new structural
elements such as <nl>, and is completely modular allowing you to import new XML
applications such as XForms.

HTML vs. XHTMLHow many people know what the code name for HTML 3.2 is, or that it even had a code name? In this article, WaSP asks the W3C for a discussion of the two markup languages, and they oblige with a little history, and a comparison and contrast format. [1299]
